ANNOUNCEMENT

Part Time Position

Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation Coordinator

 

The Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation (AWWF) is seeking a part-time coordinator averaging 16 hours/week.  The term of the contract is one year with options to extend.  The AWWF coordinator will be responsible for the administrative and organizational duties associated with fulfilling the mission, goals, and objectives of the AWWF, including:

  • Supporting friend and fundraising efforts and strategic partnerships
  • Supporting AWWF’s Youth on the Allagash Initiative
  • Supporting AWWF’s Storied Land and Waters Initiative
  • Supporting AWWF’s Natural Resource Inventory and Monitoring Initiative
  • General Administrative and Organizational Assistance

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Friend and Fund Raising

  • Manage and improve AWWF’s social marketing presence (website/blog, email, Facebook, Instagram, and others) by regularly creating new content, managing user interactions, and optimizing social medial platforms
  • Maintain AWWF mailing list and donor information
  • Record donations in donor database and issue gift acknowledgement letters.
  • Support the AWWF annual fundraising appeal and other fundraising activities by preparing and disseminating information packages and marketing materials
  • Prepare and distribute an e-newsletter

Youth on the Allagash (YOTA) Initiative

  • Serve as liaison between the AWWF, Chewonki, and participating schools
  • Facilitate the planning and execution of the annual Allagash Wilderness trips and day camp, including student recruiting efforts, trip scheduling, trip logistics, and post-trip debriefings with partners – provide timely responses to questions from Chewonki, participating schools, students and parents

Storied Lands and Waters (SLW) Initiative

  • Serve as liaison between the AWWF, Chewonki and participating schools in the implementation of the SLW recommendation relating to curriculum development including the Classroom to River project
  • Serve as primary contact for retailers of the Allagash Explorer guide and other AWWF publications and maintain inventory tracking and shipments to sellers.

Natural Resource Inventory and Monitoring (NRIM) Initiative

  • Serve as liaison between the AWWF, Bureau of Parks and Lands, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Project Contractors and various other stakeholders

General Administrative and Organizational Assistance

  • Participate (in person or by phone) in scheduled quarterly AWWF Board meetings, plus an annual three-day AWWF Board retreat usually held in the Fall on the Waterway
  • Organize and maintain the AWWF paper and electronic administrative files; maintain an AWWF Dropbox or other cloud-based administrative file system and a secondary backup system
  • Process incoming AWWF mail, including donations received, correspondence from funders, and other administrative documents.
  • In collaboration with the AWWF Treasurer, submit payment requests, maintain financial records, and run monthly financial reports.
  • Create and maintain a database of potential grant sources and the published criteria, deadlines, and key contacts.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications, grant reports, and the other fund-raising efforts
  • Assist with other AWWF initiatives, as needed

 

PREFERRED SKILLS 

  • Familiarity with and passion for the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
  • Relevant business and administrative skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and related technical skills
  • Proficiency with WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms (including content creation, user management, and platform optimization)

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree (preferably in business, marketing, or related field) or equivalent 3-year work experience
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel within Maine and an annual multi-day overnight trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Submission to a background check and fingerprinting upon request
  • Maintenance of a home office (or a shared office) with high-speed internet connection and telephone/cell phone, located in Maine.

 

COMPENSATION AND START DATE

Competitive hourly wage  ($20/hour minimum), travel reimbursement, stipend for phone and internet. Unpaid leave (4 weeks/year) to be scheduled for a mutually beneficial time.

Start Date: Between May 15 and June 1, 2022
