MILLINOCKET – The Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation is thrilled to announce a unique fundraising event that promises breathtaking fall scenery and vital support for our youth paddling and camping program. On Sunday, September 28, AWWF, in partnership with Maine Northern Railway and Irving Woodlands, LLC, will host the “Fall Foliage Express,” a 90-minute vintage passenger train excursion departing from Millinocket at 8:30 a.m.
This special fundraising ride offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience Maine’s renowned autumn splendor during peak foliage season. Passengers will journey through landscapes not typically accessible by car or foot, enjoying panoramic views of Mount Katahdin, Baxter State Park, and the surrounding wilderness.
“This is an incredible collaborative opportunity presented by Maine Northern Railway, Eastern Maine Railway and Irving Woodlands, and we’re quite honored to put on this event,” said AWWF Executive Director Dan Dinsmore. “All proceeds benefit YOTA, our youth paddling and camping program. That’s terrific. However, the opportunity to see Katahdin during peak foliage season is quite exciting as well. We’re simply thrilled to be a part of this event.”
All proceeds from the Fall Foliage Express will directly benefit AWWF’s flagship Youth on the Allagash program. YOTA is dedicated to introducing students from communities surrounding the Allagash Wilderness Waterway to this majestic natural wonder through immersive paddling and camping trips.
As a Maine-based 501(c)(3) organization, AWWF is committed to preserving and protecting the Allagash, while actively cultivating the next generation of stewards who will ensure this wild part of Maine remains wild for years to come. Funds raised from this event will be crucial for the ongoing success and planned expansion of the YOTA program in 2026.
Tickets for this exclusive journey are limited and can be purchased on AWWF’s Eventbrite page. Don’t miss this chance to witness Maine’s autumn beauty and contribute to a vital program fostering environmental stewardship!
